What's a Gagortion?

I recently started visiting “Pro Life” websites to see what kind of arguments they make for their case. A couple quick observations: I noticed that their “facts” pages are all narratives. Or rather, one narrative. The narrative is a graphic story about how horrible the abortion process is. I am also surprised that I am still surprised that many conservatives are both Pro Life AND Pro death penalty. On the Right to Life website Capital Punishment isn’t even listed as an issue. I have come to the conclusion that to “become a Pro Lifer,” the first step of proper indoctrination is to abandon all logic.
The Right to Life’s main point against abortion seems to be that Planned Parenthood is making tons of money off them. They claim that volunteer counselors at abortion clinics have financial motivation to convince young girls to get abortions. Check this
bit out:
Legalizing abortion simply gave the back-alley physician/butcher permission to put his shingle on the front door. Abortion remains very much the same today as it was in 1960, particularly regarding the first-trimester abortion techniques. The risk now comes from the huge increase in the sheer numbers of abortions done on a daily basis. In other words, what was once a horrible, but confined, tragedy has become a nationwide holocaust! Abortions are done in an assembly-line production in abortion facilities all over the country. Ask your audience this question: How can there be any real safety in an environment where the main concern is to perform as many abortions as possible in order to increase the abortionist’s profit margin?
They also quote a leader at Planned Parenthood stating that most of their clients are low income women of color. They use this quote as evidence that Planned Parenthood targets these populations.
I wonder if they picture abortion clinics like I picture corporate board rooms: full of smokey, suited, powerful evil doers, maniacally laughing. From the Planned Parenthoods I have seen this picture would look more like a small back room in an old converted office building, piled high with pamphlets and extra supplies. Probably a mop. And there would be a few nice looking black and Hispanic women in pastel scrubs playing poker, or something, betting with baby fetuses. And maniacally laughing.
I wonder if it is a common belief among Pro Lifers that Pro Choicers actually enjoy abortions. That we love dead baby fetuses and that they are a delicacy among the Choice community. Abortion is a horrible physical and emotional experience. I think we can all agree on that. Yet they clearly think the problem is that abortion is legal. Their website content indicates that they know abortions are going to happen anyway. I wish all these Pro Lifers would put all their fundraising and efforts towards researching and solving the reasons that lead women to have abortions, such as lack of affordable health care, sex education, and general poverty. Then they might actually cut down the number of abortions.
I was once told that Christian interest in baby fetuses is because these souls have the possibility of being saved, whereas criminals on death row have already lost any chance at heaven. Without going into the inherent flaws of this logic, can I just ask: How Stupid is the Christian Right? I don’t think they understand what “science” is (Intelligent Design, for example ). The Christian Right thinks that women are basically baby making machines. (Menstruation is Murder) That’s another bit in this whole argument. The right to choice is intimately linked with Women’s rights and sexual freedom. I am talking about birth control, education and access here. And that’s why this shit scares the SHIT out of me, because pretty soon here, if we aren’t paying attention, the issue of abortion could affect MY SEX LIFE. And, honestly, what is more important than my sex life? Honestly?
A girl that I know put Christian, bible-informed views succinctly: “Who needs empirical evidence when we’ve got this wacky book?” That same girl informed me her grandparents had a baby fetus in a jar of formaldehyde. I guess her grandma had a miscarriage and they just decided to keep it. I just thought that was cool.
I can’t stand women who are Pro Life. They are as bad as women who are not feminists. I met a girl recently who told me she voted for Bush. She also said that she was an environmentalist and pro-choice. So she’s obviously a fuckwad. Call me judgmental, but at this point, the way the world is going, I have very little tolerance left for people who refuse to think.
So if you like to have sex and not have babies, you might want to start giving a fuck.
